Steps to Register as an IFYHA Coach

1. Register as a Member of USA Hockey

You must register as a member of USA Hockey, the governing body for the Idaho Amateur Hockey Association (IAHA).  You will be given a confirmation number that you will need later in your registration process.

Cost is $56 for registration.

2. Background Check

All adult coaches, officials, board members, employees, volunteers, and anyone else who will have regular contact with, or authority over, athletes under the age of 18 are required to submit to a background screen before any such contact with those athletes.

All new screens submitted through the new NCSI national screening program after April 1st, 2020, will be valid for two seasons.

The eight digit self registration ID number for USAH to initiate your screen is 35615801.

Cost is $30 for all domestic screenings.

3. SafeSport Training Through USA Hockey

The SafeSport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one (1) season beginning on 4/1/20.

As of January 1st, 2018, all relevant individuals who need to be SafeSport certified or are seeking recertification will need to complete the new SafeSport training, which features updated content.

Once you have completed the Core SafeSport course, there will be a refresher course available for individuals who have previously completed the Core SafeSport course and need to recertify.  Users completing the SafeSport Refresher course will be certified for one (1) additional season.

PLEASE NOTE that you will need your own USA Hockey Confirmation Number and your own email address to access the training.

There is no cost for the SafeSport Core or Refresher courses.

4. Register with IFYHA

Fill out a few pages of information about yourself.

There is no cost for registering as a coach with IFYHA.

5. USA Hockey Online Age-Specific Modules

Online Age-Specific Modules
You must complete the modules for the age categories you will be coaching PRIOR to participating with your team or being placed on a roster.

You will need to create an account with the USA Hockey Certification Course Registration System.  Registering with USA Hockey in step 1 does not automatically create this login.  Coaches must be current members of USA Hockey in order to register for the modules.

Click on the link to register for a module or login to the module site to continue a previously registered module or access your account to view review any previously completed modules.  Once logged in, you will click the "Coaching E-Learning" link to access the list of available Age-Specific Modules.

Courses are $10 each.

6. Find, Register and Attend the Required Coaching Education Program (CEP) Clinic

NEW:  On June 4, 2020, USA Hockey announced that it will conduct its Level 1-4 coaching certification clinics virtually until it is deemed safe to host large group gatherings.

A new temporary card is being introduced as a flexible option for coaches to maintain their certification if they are unable to attend virtual coaching clinics due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new coach can receive a Temporary Card for Level 1 for the 2020-2021 season.  The following year (2021-2022), they will need to attend a Level 1 clinic.

All other coaches will receive a one (1) year extension at the current level that they are at for the 2020-2021 season.  The following season (2021-2022), they must attend the next level up.

If receiving a Level 3, that certification is only good for one (1) year.  If you purchase a temp card you will need to wait until after October 1st, 2020 to attend a virtual clinic, if you see one that you want attend.

To search for a list of courses, click the "USA Hockey Courses" tab at the top left after logging on.

The next level course must be completed on an annual basis until a CEP Level 3 is achieved (Exception: 8U (Mite) division coaches may remain at Level 1 or other certification level, even if expired, until such time as they are coaching any older age level of play).  Once a CEP Level 3 is completed, a Coaching - Level 3 Recertification may be performed via the E-Learning system on an annual basis for two (2) years.

Courses are $50 each.
